O'Brien, Francis J. age 93 of Le Sueur, died at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday morning, November 22, 2014. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, November 26, 11:00a.m. St. Anne's Church in Le Sueur. Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 25, from 4-8 p.m. at the Kolden Funeral Home in Le Sueur. The evening will conclude with an 8:00 p.m. K.C. Rosary and Parish Prayer service. Visitation will continue on Wednesday morning at the church from 9-11a.m. Interment with Military Honors will be at St. Anne's Catholic Church Cemetery in Le Sueur. Francis was born in Belle Plaine on January 3, 1921 to Catherine (Shea) and John E. O'Brien. He graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1938, then entered the Army Air Corp. in 1942. He was a B-25 pilot in the 310th Bomber Group, 381st Bomb Squadron. He flew 48 missions, mostly out of Corsica over the Brenner Pass in Italy. A defining loss in his world was the death of his brother Billy, who was killed in the Battle of the Bulge. Francis returned home to farm and open O'Brien Plumbing & Heating shop in Le Sueur. He operated the business for nearly six decades, employing hundreds of people and which gave many young people their first start and spawned many other businesses. Throughout his life his highest values were his family and faith. He and Mary Grace (Burns) married and raised six children. In 1986 he married Linda (Roeder). His business was a major part of his life and supported his many other interests, including the creation of traditions of fishing and hunting trips with family and friends. He was a devoted sports fan and enjoyed a pastime of high school sports, Vikings, Twins, Gophers and Lynx. He enjoyed card games and belonged to a card club for more than four decades. He enjoyed traveling, especially his annual trips to Florida with Linda. One of his more unique trips was to plumb a duck hot dog plant in Kazakhstan. Francis was known by those who loved him for his Irish humor and his heart medication (brandy). Francis was preceded in death by his parents, baby sister Mary Therese, brothers, Bill, Jack, Finton and Gerald. He is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Annette (Ed) Rasmusen, Arlene (Pat) O'Brien-Finn, Mary Francis Devine, Michael (Sue) O'Brien, Joe (Becky) O'Brien, Ron O'Brien, and step-son, Christopher (Jodie) Roeder; grandchildren, Stephanie McElroy, Jennifer (Matt) Johnson, Brad (Sheryl) Boren, Josh (Heather) Kinkeade, John (Sarah) Kinkeade, Jessica (Horacio) O'Brien-Ferres, Matthew O'Brien-Devine, Angela Devine-Wilmes, Sarah (Nick) Shouts, John Devine, Angela Green, Nick (Becki) O'Brien, Step-Grandchildren, Cadel Roeder, Kailen Roeder, Keira Roeder, Liberty Roeder; 21 great-grandchildren; former wife, Mary Grace O'Brien of Le Sueur, MN; siblings, Thomas (Therese) O'Brien, Donald (Mary Jane) O'Brien, Kevin O'Brien, Mary (Charlie) Buley, Geraldine Latterell, Keiran (Diane) O'Brien, Joseph (Bernice) O'Brien, Colleen (Gene) Sathre; sister-in-law, Fran O'Brien, many nieces and nephews.
