Jon 'Whitey' Nicholson

Nicholson, Jon "Whitey" age 78 of Northfield, passed away Friday morning, November 21, 2014. A loving, compassionate and proud husband, father, grandfather and friend, he was dearly loved by his family and friends. Born in Lanesboro, MN, in 1936, Jon was a member of Mrs. Solie's nursery school class in Minneapolis in the 1940s; graduated from Washburn High School (1954) and Carleton College (1958), where he played basketball and baseball and met his wife, Ann; and earned a master's degree from the University of Chicago. Jon was a dedicated college administrator at Carleton College, serving as an admissions officer at Carleton for over 30 years, and received Carleton's Alumni Award for Exceptional Service in 2003. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Ann; three children: Jean (Jim) Walz of Elk Grove Village, IL, Kris Parker of Northfield, Eric (Lisa) of St. Paul; seven grandchildren: Sarah and Rebecca Walz; Noah and Casey Parker; and Anna, Calvin and David Nicholson; and sister-in-law, Sue Doyle of Denver, CO. A Celebration of Jon's Life will be held at 11AM, Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 500 W. 3rd St., Nfld. Visitation will be 4-7PM Tuesday (11/25) at the Benson & Langehough FH in Nfld. Visitation at church one hour prior to the service.
