Berneeta Louise Campbell

Campbell, Berneeta Louise age 94, surrounded by her family, left this world peacefully on Thursday, November 20, 2014. Born on August 17, 1920, to Willard and Meta Scrivner, she was the second of four daughters. The family lived on a farm outside of Storden, Minnesota; it was there without plumbing or electricity that Berneeta learned the value of hard work, the gift of gratitude, and a love of learning. She and her older sister, Lois, would walk a mile and a half each day to school, and school and education would remain a life-long calling for Berneeta. She graduated from Mankato State Teacher's College in 1937 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. Her career spanned nearly five decades, and her classroom evolved from a one room school house to a modern elementary school in Lake Crystal, MN. Berneeta's passion and expertise became Reading. She once said, "I have come to learn that life is like a classroom, for each day life offers me an opportunity to learn." Her faith and her family were her guiding lights. She married her husband, William Campbell, in 1943, and together they lived a life of deep love and devotion to each other. They were a team. They loved the farmland, the Minnesota Twins, and, most of all, their daughters. Their grandchildren, also, held a special place in their heart. Berneeta retired in 1984. As a professional, she had a Masters Degree, was selected President of Delta Kappa Gamma (an honorary education society), and in 1984 was a Finalist for Minnesota Teacher of the Year. Berneeta will always remain in the hearts of her family, the children she taught, and the friends who knew her. As a wife and mother, she was preceded in death by sisters Ginger and LaFaye, and by her beloved husband, Bill. Berneeta's immediate family includes her two daughters Pat (Richard) Krueger, Pam (Joe) Wycoff; a sister, Lois Pietz; grandchildren, Michelle Compton and Tyler Krueger; and great-grandchildren, Cade and Cole Compton and Taylor Krueger. Services will be held at Woodland Hills Funeral Home and Chapel, 1605 Woodland Avenue, Mankato, MN 56001. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, November 28th. The Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 29th. Memorials may be sent to the Minnesota Reading Association c/o Berneeta Campbell, P.O. Box 904, St. Cloud, MN 56301.
