Anthony Joseph Pollock, M.D.

Pollock, Anthony Joseph, M.D. Age 87 of Bloomington, formerly of Edina, Minnesota. Born April 21, 1927, in Hibbing, Minnesota; died November 18, 2014. Anthony graduated from Hibbing High School in 1942, attended St. John's University and received his M.D. degree from Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1948 at the age of 21. Anthony met his future wife, Helen Libera, R.N., while both working at St. Mary's Hospital in Minneapolis. After psychiatry residencies in Fort Lyons and Denver, Colorado and a position opening the Mental Health Center at the University of Indiana, Indianapolis Medical Center, Anthony returned to Minneapolis with his young family in 1955. He had a short stint in private practice, then became a staff Psychiatrist at Minneapolis General Hospital outpatient Psychiatry Clinic, now Hennepin County Medical Center, retiring in 1994. Anthony contributed extensively to the Psychiatry community at Minneapolis General, and as a consultant at Catholic Charities, Sister Kinney Institute, the V.A. Hospital, Multi Resource Center, and Minnesota State Mental Hospitals; and was clinical faculty at the University of Minnesota Medical School where he supervised and trained psychiatric residents. Anthony was a Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Anthony was predeceased by parents Anton and Angeline (nee Pawlikowski) Pollock; sister Dorothea Sowada; and daughter Carol Helen. Anthony is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen; eight children: Steven, Katherine, Nancy, Thomas (Monica), David (Holli), Susan (Carla), Martin (Casey) and John (Stacy); sister, Antoinette Hunstiger; and fifteen grandchildren: Joseph, Meccy, Lucas, Alexander, Dylan, Nicholas, Frances, Thomas, Freya, Robert, David, Sarah, David, Kathryn, and Hudson, and one great-grandchild, Massa. Throughout his life, Anthony was a man of deep faith, deep words, and deep love of family.
