Mildred (Farkash) Miller

Miller, Mildred Farkash 94, was surrounded by family and died peacefully on Oct. 29, 2014. Born to Hungarian immigrants Harry and Tillie Farkash, Mildred grew up in Union City, NJ and earned a Bachelor's Degree from Montclair State Teachers College. During WWII she worked for the Veterans Administration in Washington, D.C. where she met Donald Edward Miller. Married on May 11, 1947, they lived a short time in Sacramento, CA before moving to MN. They raised four children in the Powderhorn Park Neighborhood. Mildred worked for Mpls. Public Library, MN Tax Department, and Mpls. Public Schools. She was a voracious reader and accomplished poet. Mildred's book of poetry, A World Split Open, was published in 1999 and reprinted in 2000. Mildred enjoyed traveling, going to museums, attending concerts and plays, watching movies and public television. She loved her family, friends, and chocolate. Preceded in death by siblings Esther, Ruth, and Eugene, her husband Donald, and son Steven, Mildred will always be remembered by her children Robert (Cindy), Barb (Lew) Thornbrough, and David and daughter-in-law Shari Albers. Mildred will be greatly missed by her 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and her nieces, nephews, and many friends. Mildred's life will be celebrated Tues. Nov. 4, 11:30 am at Hodroff Epstein Memorial Chapel, 126 E. Franklin Ave, Minneapolis. Interment @ Fort Snelling for family only. Memorials to Doctors Without Borders are appreciated.
