Lundquist, Joy Lois (Moberg) Went to be with her Lord on Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, just 37 days short of her 89th birthday. Joy was born in Winona, Minnesota November 23, 1925, the sixth of nine children born to Rev. Thure and Ruth (Wellner) Moberg. At the age of ten, Joy's family moved to Tacoma, Washington, where the family remained, and where in 1947 Joy earned a B.A. at the College of Puget Sound. Joy married Rev. Donald Lundquist January 28, 1956, at North Park Seminary in Chicago. Shortly thereafter, the couple went as missionaries to the Belgian Congo with the Evangelical Covenant Church. They had four children, and served as missionaries to Congo for 25 years, with breaks in the U.S. for furloughs and a nine-year leave of absence during which they served a pastorate at Fridley Covenant Church in the Minneapolis area. In retirement, Joy worked part-time, most notably for HCJB, a Christian radio station. But her first priority was always her family. For nearly 20 years of retirement, she supported Don in part-time pastoral work and did all she could for her children and grandchildren. Joy was a wonderful, loving, giving wife, mother, sister and friend. She loved God deeply and had an exceptional trust in God. She also loved people, and was always interested in what others said or did. She taught Sunday School, delivered Meals On Wheels, and did other volunteer work. Joy also loved music and was a gifted church choir member. In her youth, she and two sisters sang as a trio in area churches and were given a regular spot on a radio show. Joy loved travelling, and travelled widely in the US, Africa and Europe, visiting South America twice; but she especially loved the Pacific Northwest and her beloved Mt. Rainier. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Thure and Ruth Moberg, her brothers, Alden and Winston; and sisters. Ruth, Lucille, Eunice, and Eleanor. She is survived by husband Rev. Donald Lundquist, son John Lundquist, daughter Marnie (Mark) Gaasedelen, daughter Beth (Mike) Milovich, son Paul (Ako) Lundquist; sisters, Pearl Dingman and Margaret (Peggy) Caldwell; and grandchildren Christine, Betsy, and Tom Gaasedelen, and Anon and Annika Lundquist. Service of Resurrection Friday, October 24, 2014 at 11:00, Excelsior Covenant Church, Excelsior, MN. Visitation at 10:00 before the service. Memorials preferred to Covenant World Missions for Congo or Excelsior Covenant Church.
