Laurence Harlan

Harlan, Laurence Age 86, currently of Monticello, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2014. He was born in Lawrence, Kansas on May 20, 1928. He served in the Navy as an electronics technician. He then went on to college and graduated from the University of Iowa. He married Marilyn Novatny on June 7, 1951. Larry was a lifelong member of ASHRAE and spent his career in the heating and ventilation industry. He loved to make people smile and laugh with all his jokes. Larry enjoyed fishing, woodworking, reading and electronics and spending time with his friends and family. Bridge, UNO and bingo were amongst his favorite pastimes. He had a passion for music, and enjoyed playing the clarinet and piano. Larry was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Marilyn; infant daughter, Mary Grace; and parents, Laurence and Velma Harlan. He will be deeply missed by his children, Peggy Ann Halsey, Robert Laurence (Joan) Harlan, Jennifer Lee Harlan (Mark) Miller; grandchildren, Brian, Thomas, Scott, Melissa, Brittany, Christine, Rachel, Mitchell; sister, Mary Ann (Ken) LeVan; brother-in-law Don (Sandra) Novatny; six nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and good friends. A funeral mass will be held for Larry on Tuesday, September 23rd at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 1326 4th Street NW, Elk River, at 2 PM with a visitation one-half hour prior. Private family interment to be held at a later date.
