Vernon L. Whitbeck

Whitbeck, Vernon L. (Vern) Of Fridley, MN; born on July 11, 1922 in New Amsterdam, WI. Passed away on Septem-ber 18, 2014. Vern is survived by his loving wife, Sandy; 3 daughters, Cindi Mandigo, Carol Underferth, Tracey Headings, and son-in-law Robert Headings; 4 grandchildren, Michael, Scott, Elizabeth and Catherine; sister, Gladys Uhde; 9 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law and brother-in-law; Pat and Dennis Pond, many loving relatives and friends as well as his constant companion his Scottish Terrier, Sophie. Vern worked as an owner and salesman in the retail furniture business for over 50 years. He was a World War II veteran and a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge. He loved his family foremost, reveled in playing golf, and loved to travel in his retirement. Vern was a true gentleman and a friend to all he met. He was unfailingly kind, polite, loyal and compassionate. He will be sadly missed but always remembered as a loving husband, father and brother. As Vern asked, family and friends are invited to join us in sharing memories and celebrating Vern's life at Jax Café, 1928 University Avenue, Mpls., from 4-8PM on Tuesday, September 23rd. Private burial at Fort Snelling. Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Unity Hospital for their care. A very special thanks to Dr. David King for his care, compassion, kindness and friendship.
