Skuza, Burton H. O.D. Loving husband, father, grandfather, hero At age 95, passed away peacefully the morning of September 18th, 2014. Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Helen; his adoring children, David (Lynne), Joan (Lindekugel), and Roseann (Tim Fisher) along with his loveable grandchildren, Emily, Nicholas, Sam, Grace and Isabella. Also survived by his brother Ken and his sister Hazel (Benson). He was preceded in death by his sister Francis (Mohr), brothers, Ray and Virgil, and son-in-law Mark Lindekugel. Born in 1918 in Buelah, ND, he grew up in St. Cloud before joining the Civilian Conservation Corps. Burt joined the Army in World War II serving as a Medic in North Africa, Sicily, and landed on D Day at Omaha Beach continuing his service to the Battle of the Bulge. He received a number of citations because of his heroic actions, after spending three years, four months and ten days in the service of the U. S. Army. After his service he attended and graduated from Northern Illinois College of Optometry. He was a respected optometrist in Minneapolis and a past President of the Minnesota Optometric Association. Following his retirement, he was appointed as Executive Director of the Minnesota Board of Optometry. He was honored at the White House by both President Carter and President Reagan for his volunteerism in vision care for the elderly. Services will be held Tuesday, September 23rd at the Historic Guardian Angels Church in Oakdale Minnesota. Visitation at 9:00AM followed by mass at 10:00AM. Burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
