Michael Leon Erickson

Erickson, Michael Leon "Uncle Mike" Mike, age 74, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2014. Having been diagnosed in 2011 with lung cancer he put up a long and courageous fight and was an inspiration to all that knew him. Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Sue, of 46 years, and his parents, Leon and Esther Erickson. He is survived by sisters, Janice (Till) Bruett, Nancy (David) Robinson, Wendy (Gary) Beck; and nieces and nephews, Justin Robinson, Mindy Beck, Nicole (Peter) DeFazio, Scott (Kelly) Foster, and Lorie Porter; plus many loving and caring relatives and friends that will miss him dearly. As a young man Mike grew up in St. Cloud and went on to graduate from the Mpls. School of Business in the 60's. After graduation he proceeded to have a successful business career in the world of finance, where he had many business accomplishments, along with developing and maintaining friendships that lasted a life time. Later on in life he volunteered his time to provide financial service to senior citizens. Mike loved life and lived it in his own way to the fullest with his wife, Sue. He leaves behind many loving family members and close friends and treasured neighbors. He had a great perspective on life with insightful thoughts, and a positive attitude that was infectious. Mike was always compassionate towards others and was often referred to as "the family caretaker." When he wasn't communicating with relatives and long cherished friends he was actively following the local sports teams especially his bewildering Minnesota Gopher football team, where he and Sue were contributors and long-time season ticket holders - "Go Gophers." A memorial service for Mike and Sue will be held on Monday, September 29, at 11:00 am at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 13901 Fairview Drive, Burnsville, MN 55337. Prior to the service at 10:00 am there will be time set aside for family members and friends to gather and fondly remember Mike's and Sue's lives. There will be a light lunch served following the service at the church. Inurnment will be held at the Sunset Cemetery, 2250 St. Anthony Blvd. NE, Mpls, MN 55418.
