Gilbert, Sister Lois (Mary Gilbert) SSND 87, died Fri., Aug. 11, 2017 at Good Counsel, Mankato. Her Funeral Mass is Monday, August 14, 10:30 a.m. in Good Counsel Chapel, with a Prayer Service 9 a.m. Monday at Good Counsel followed by visitation until the funeral. Sister Lois was born in Minneapolis in 1929 to Elmer and Beatrice (Martin) Gilbert. She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1947. She professed first vows in 1950. In the Metro area, she taught at St. John the Baptist, Dayton (1950-54); St. Mary, Shakopee (1959-62); and Northeast Regional School (1974-77). She was a guidance counselor at St. Agnes, St. Paul (1978-84); Regina High School (1984-87) and Benilde-St. Margaret (1987-1998). After 48 years as a teacher and counselor, she helped inaugurate a folk art program in Oakdale, MN. Survived by two brothers, Don (Gayle) and Howard (Judy), nieces and nephews, and her sisters in community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
