Tyler, Mary Ann (Gelhar) Age 84 of Eden Prairie, passed away July 16, 2017 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Preceded in death by her husband William (Bill), father, Leo and mother, Cathryn as well as her brother Ambrose. Mary was born and raised in Little Falls MN, and graduated from St. Frances High School. She became a teacher, and taught first grade in Richfield MN, a profession that she loved. She remained teaching until her third child was born. Mary had many friends, and was known and loved for her positive outlook on life, her contagious energy and her ability to find a song or a rhyme for nearly every situation. She tended to be the life of the meeting, gathering or party, and loved to follow the all of the local sports teams especially the Twins and the Vikings. Mary was politically active and worked tirelessly for free public education for children with special needs. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Mary was very active, and thoroughly enjoyed golfing and bowling. Like her husband, she loved vacationing in Florida and spending time on the many lakes of Minnesota. Mary will be greatly missed by all who knew her, and remembered for her laugh, her humor, and her love of turtles. Mary is survived by her brothers Leo and Robert and sister Leora, daughter Julie (Mark), sons Joel (Starlett) and Mike, granddaughters Mackenzie and Madison, as well as several nieces and nephews. A special thanks to the Brookdale Hospice team, especially Jamie and Isabella. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 27 at 11 AM at Pax Christi Catholic church in Eden Prairie. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights. Memorials preferred to Community Involvement Program, or the Alzheimer's Association.
