Rita Yen Lee

Lee, Rita Yen Age 76, of Bloomington, died peacefully on Easter morning, April 16, after experiencing a stroke. She was surrounded by her loving children and dear family friend, Steve Hurvitz. Rita was married to Franklin Lee for 42 years before he died in 2002. She is survived by children Tina (Jon Lemelin) Lee, Kevin (Anna) Lee, and grandchildren Chris, Sydney, and Grace Lemelin, Bo, Judge, Mae, and Juni Lee. Rita was born in Shanghai, China, on October 16, 1940, the 7th of 8 children. She studied at Wagner College, Staten Island, NY, married Franklin and moved to Acton, MA before settling in Bloomington in 1974. Rita was not only a devoted wife and mother, but also owned and managed the Mandarin Yen restaurants in Golden Valley and Bloomington with Franklin. At age 50, she pursued her dream of traveling as a flight attendant with Northwest Airlines. Since retiring in 2005, Rita loved spending her days at Creekside Senior Center enjoying computer memory games, exercise classes, and sharing meals with friends. She joined her walking buddies each week, studied languages, collected dragon shirts, and attended concerts, movies, and theater shows. Rita will be remembered as cheerful, fearless, caring, and passionate. She had an infectious laugh and regaled others with stories from all aspects of her adventurous life.
