Berkman, Catherine (Gray) Age 91, of Bloomington, formerly of Richfield, MN, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2017 Originally from Franklin, NC, Cathy followed her husband to MN with their 3-mos old daughter in 1952 during one of MN's coldest winters. She often explained her lifelong accent as being from "south Minneapolis" and said her roots were frozen in MN. Describing herself as "Chatty Cathy," she made countless friends while serving as a Sunday School teacher and officer at Knox Presbyterian Church for 65 years, participant in PTA and Campfire Girls leader in Richfield, bank employee at Richfield Bank, volunteer at Fair-view Hospital and the Bloomington Japanese Garden, avid walker at the MOA walking club, card-player at Creekside Senior Ctr. At Presbyterian Homes she enjoyed bingo and got everyone to help work jigsaw puzzles. She loved butterflies and flowers, and watching birds, clouds and sunsets. Preceded in death by her husband Ora (Bud), parents Jim and Bessie and brother George (WWII). Survived by her children Brenda and James; sister Betty Sue Cunningham; brother Harley Eugene and sister-in-law Shirley Gray; nieces, nephews and other loving family; and sustaining friend Karen Fussy along with many friends. Memorial service at 2 PM on Fri. March 31, 2017, Presbyterian Homes Chapel, 9889 Penn Ave S, Bloomington, with visitation one hour prior. Private interment at Ft Snelling Natl Cemetery. Memorials preferred to Allina Hospice, Presbyterian Homes or Knox Presbyterian Church.
