Hass, Dr. Frederick M. passed away peacefully on September 23, 2016, at the age of 97 at the home of his daughter, Marilyn. Preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Adolph and Mary (Baxter) Hass, brother Ellsworth Hass and sister Marjorie Deck, his beloved wife of 65 years, Orpha Charlotte, and sons Frederick M., Jr., and John G. Survived by daughters Marilyn J. (Richard) Krambeer and Carol M. (Michael) Roden, and son, James B. (Gina) Hass, daughters-in-law Patricia Hass and Elizabeth Hass, 18 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Longtime member of Calvary Lutheran Church of Golden Valley and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Graduate of North High School in Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota Medical School. Served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps (including in Japan from 1946-1948), after which he started a Family Practice clinic in Jordan, Minnesota. Temporarily took on the clinic in Minneapolis started by his medical school classmate and friend, Dr. John N. Giebenhain, who had to go on active duty in the U.S. Army. After his discharge, they practiced together at that clinic as Giebenhain & Hass, P.A., which later became North Clinic, P.A., in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. He continued to practice there until retiring in 1984. During those years, he was Chief of Staff at North Memorial Medical Center in 1967, and also served a term as Chief of the Family Practice Department at Northwestern Hospital. During his long career, he delivered thousands of babies. North Clinic was the first north suburban clinic to incorporate specialists into their practice rather than referring patients to those in downtown Minneapolis. Spending time with the family was a top priority, often at their lake cabin in Remer, Minnesota, or at Blue Lake in Isanti County, or on family trips to places like Florida, California, and Mexico. Hunting and fishing were among his favorite pastimes. Also enjoying tinkering at his workbench, he held two patents for medical devices. He planted thousands of seedlings over the years in Isanti and Cass Counties and dedicated a private wildlife area in Isanti County to his mother and his wife. For many years, he volunteered as team physician for the Golden Valley High School athletic teams and was given an honorary GVHS letter jacket in appreciation. He and Charlotte frequently entertained family and friends at their home or cabin, and in their later years, they enjoyed the company of their two dogs, Charlie and Diana. His love of family, willingness to help others, and sense of humor were obvious to all. In his last days, he acknowledged being thankful for the full life he had and family, friends and colleagues, commented that he was at peace, and said he looked forward to spending eternity with departed relatives and friends in God's presence. Memorials preferred to Calvary Lutheran Church of Golden Valley, Animal Humane Society, or to donor's choice. The family thanks Pastor Skip Reeves and Pastor Mike Gaulke for their loving spiritual care of him, Dr. Darrell Krieger of North Clinic for decades of great medical care, and Dr. Rolf Hallberg of Fairview Northland Medical Clinic, Fairview Hospice Care of Princeton and North Memorial Hospice Care for excellent palliative care over the past 11 months.
