Jack F. McGrane

McGrane, Jack F. age 86, of Burnsville, was born 02 April 1930 in Gurley, Cheyenne County, NE to John Henry McGrane and Viola Goedert McGrane, he was their fifth and last child. Jack lived his first eleven years in Gurley, then moved with his parents and two older brothers, Leonard and Murl to Compton Township, Otter Tail County, MN. His two sisters, Vera Hecker and Irene Skarka were married and remained in Nebraska. Jack attended rural school through the 8th grade, finishing high school in Wadena, graduating in June 1948. Jack joined and entered the US Air Force on 23 Jun 1948. He was honorably discharged on 09 Jan 1950 returning home to help his father farm. In the ensuing year he and Ruth Emma Lorin rekindled their high school acquaintance and married on 10 Apr 1951. His father John Henry ceased farming in the fall of 1954, so Jack and Ruth packed up two kids and one infant and "headed west" to Minot. Years of travel, new homes, three more children, jobs, adventures and travels led them to "nest" in Burnsville, MN in their twilight years. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Viola, his two sisters Vera and Irene, brother Leonard, his wife Catherine, and brother Murl. He is survived by his wife Ruth, his sisters-in-law Kathleen McGrane, Rose Marie Christensen, children Daniel McGrane (Anne), Barbara McGrane, Patricia Hooper (Angus), Virginia Sibley (Cal), Rebecca McGrane and John McGrane. He is also graced with nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild in the near future. Jack fought a valiant battle with throat cancer over the past seven years. His last bout this spring was the final straw. Hospitalized two weeks ago he expressed his wishes and slipped away, Wednesday 29 June 2016 under Fairview Hospice care at John's home in Burnsville. A Celebration of Life at White Funeral Home, 12804 Nicollet Ave So, Burnsville, MN from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Saturday, 02 July 2016 is followed with a luncheon gathering at John's home, 2601 East 122nd Street, Burnsville.
