Duane Orville Jackson

Jackson, Duane Orville of St Croix Falls, WI, age 90, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2016. Duane was born in Minnetonka, MN on June 2, 1926. The second son of Arthur Robert Jackson and Anna Zuelch Jackson, he graduated from the former Minneapolis Miller High School. He proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII along with 4 years in U.S. Naval Reserve. Duane married Shirley Peabody of Brainerd, MN on June 26, 1948. The couple moved to St. Louis Park where three sons were born; Michael (Chris) of Cedar Falls, IA; Thomas of Minneapolis, MN and Mark (Jeannie) of Chaska, MN. Duane was employed as Vice President of Peabody Advertising in Minneapolis. During this period he cofounded the St. Louis Park Junior Chamber of Commerce and was cofounder and president of the West End Improvement Association. Daughter Sarah (Dr. Steve) Jabs of Minneapolis, MN was born in Cedar Falls, IA where Duane was employed as Vice President of Distinguished Gift Manufacturing, a division of Santa Claus Associates. He founded and was President of Duane Jackson Inc in Waterloo, IA when helping others conquer addiction became his life's passion. In 1966 he founded the Cedar Heights AA group. In addition, he was cofounder of American Martyrs weekend AA retreat group in Cedar Falls, IA. He also was the founder of The Carrolton group in Cedar Rapids, IA. Returning to the Minneapolis area he became Spiritual Director of The Retreat located in Wayzata, MN serving 14 years and retiring at the age of 86 in 2012. His significant contributions and dedication to others will be deeply missed by all those that he has touched in his life. Duane is survived by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great-great grandchild. Visitation will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 30. at the Washburn-McReavy Funeral Home 5000 West 50th St. Edina, MN 55436. A memorial and celebration of Duane's life will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 1 at Lakewood Memorial Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55408.
