Stephen R. 'Steve' Hastings

Hastings, Stephen R. "Steve" of Robbinsdale, MN, passed away on Friday, April 18th, and will be dearly missed by many. Steve was a Vietnam Veteran, and longtime publisher of the Minneapolis Taxi News. He graduated from Brown Institute, and worked as a radio broadcaster and play by play announcer in International Falls and Mankato as a young man. Steve was especially passionate about American History and sports. He was a human encyclopedia, and could name every president of the US in order, their vice president, and whom they defeated in the election as well as every World Series or Superbowl champion by memory. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and interesting historical facts with friends, especially his son and grandchildren. His crew of lifelong friends affectionately call themselves "The Boys with No Brains," and his sense of humor was one of his most endearing qualities. Survived by his former wife, Rita Hastings; his son, Andrew Hastings and wife Malena; two grandchildren, Aidan and Emeryanna; his sister, Roberta Novick; as well as many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Winfield and Ione; brother, Sam; and sister, Sue. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Friday, April 25 at the Church of the Sacred Heart, 4087 West Broadway, Robbinsdale (763-537-4561). Visitation Thursday from 4pm to 8pm at Gearty-Delmore Robbinsdale Chapel, 3888 West Broadway, and again one hour prior to Mass Friday AT CHURCH.
