Westover, Brian Lee age 59, of Fridley, MN, passed away April 3rd, 2014. He was born in St. Paul on March 12th, 1955 to Donald and Esther Westover. Brian attended Highland Park High School and graduated with highest honors from the University of Minnesota. Brian is lovingly survived by wife Carol and family Melanie/Gareth, Jessica/Grant, Thomas/Molly and James/Lindsay. He will be missed by grandchildren Nicole, Derek, Susanna, Grace and Grant. Also survived by mother Esther, brother Craig/Tam, sisters Anita/Scott and Annette/John, nieces, nephews, our Poker family and many dear friends. Always quick with his intellect and wit, we have lost one of the great ones. A family man first, he was a loving husband, Dad, Poppy, son, nephew, brother, uncle, friend, and colleague. Whether dazzling with his latest take on a recipe, planning pirate and Christmas parties, finding the wind while sailing Lake Superior, officiating at speed skating meets around the world, counting stripes on the grandkids or juggling for their amusement, providing sage advice and being an excellent sounding board, or investing in the people he interacted with in so many capacities, he engaged with people in a way that brought warmth, humor, inclusiveness, and goodwill. Not only did he find learning in every situation, we all learned from him and by how he carried himself and treated others with dignity and respect. A man of his word, a man of great character, a man who led by example, a man proud of the children he had raised, a man who was genuine and good. We miss him terribly and were not ready for our lives without him. He was taken too soon, but lives on in our hearts, minds, memories, stories, and shared laughter. When you raise a sail, or sip a glass of wine with family or good friends, or go on a rope swing with the grandkids, know that doing so honors his life the way he lived it: with joy and laughter.
