Mary Beth (Sheppard) Greffin

Greffin, Mary Beth Sheppard Beth was born March 3, 1948 to John and Nellie Sheppard, little sister of Jack and Emil. She grew up in NE Minneapolis above the Sheppard Food Market, next door to cousin Mary Anne Kitt Luciow. She was a beloved member of the Ukrainian community, graduated from Edison H.S. in 1966, and received her BA in social work from the University of Minnesota in 1970. She loved to travel and worked as an academic advisor for enlisted military service members in Europe in the 1970's and 80's. She married the love of her life, Patrick Greffin in 1986. For 20 years Beth worked as mental health intake social worker for Anoka County. She was an active community member and neighbor, giving her loving care, humor, and wisdom to so many people and organizations, such as the Boom Island Neighborhood Association and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Many dear friends and family helped her courageous battle against pancreatic cancer; she died peacefully at home surrounded by love and family on May 26, 2016. Beth donated her body for scientific research through the University of Minnesota. A memorial gathering is being planned for later this summer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network: pancan.org.
