Richard H. Bick

Bick, Richard H. 91, of 8501 Flying Cloud Drive, Eden Prairie, died April 26, 2016. He was born on June 27, 1924 to Reuben (Pete) and Beatrice Bick in Chicago, Illinois. Later the family moved to Glen Ellyn where he attended Glenbard High School. He then graduated from Lawrence University followed by Northwestern University Medical School in 1948. While in medical residency, he met and married his wife Lois Lynch. They moved to Galesburg, Illinois where they raised five children while he practiced family medicine for 30 years. During this period, he served 2 years in the US Army as a Captain in the Medical Corps. As part of his practice he became interested in teaching and eventually taught medical students from Rush University and the University of Illinois Medical Schools. In 1980, he and Lois moved to Minneapolis when he joined the University of Minnesota faculty in the Family Practice Department. After one year was appointed the Director of the U of M's Family Practice Residency located at Methodist Hospital. He continued this role until retirement in 1993. Since his retirement he consulted in several medical areas and found time to enjoy many areas of woodworking including bowl turning and diamond willow creations, besides continuing his favorite hobby of fishing. He is survived by his children Diane, Marti Markley (Dale), Larry (Ann), Dan (Mary Patterson), daughter-in-law Mary Manion-Bick, and sister Patricia Huffman. He was a grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Lois, his brother Bill, and son Steve. Always an optimist and positive, he would enjoy knowing that his friends and family were celebrating his long full life. To that end, a celebration will be Monday, May 2, from 5-8 PM at Washburn McReavy Edina Chapel, W 50th St. & Hwy 100 (952-920-3996). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bakken Museum, American Woodturner's Association (Landmark Center), or a charity of the donor's choice. Washburn-McReavy.com
