Martin A. Marrin

Marrin, Martin A. Age 83. Marty, the only son and second child of Martin F. and Nellie Marrin, died on February 4th after a short illness. He was a generous father, loving husband, and faithful son. Marty was a life-long resident of South Minneapolis, who grew up in Holy Rosary Parish, graduated from DeLaSalle High School in 1950 and was a long-time baseball player (ever an infielder) and fan of the Minneapolis Millers and Minnesota Twins. He loved his children, providing them a loving and safe home, solid education, a love of music and a grand appreciation of their Irish Catholic roots. Marty is survived by his wife Kathleen; children Martin (Nancy) Bridget Buckley (Greg), Mary Kate Calhoun (Larry), Matthew (Mary), William (Patti), and Joseph (Brenda). He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Ellen Martha. Marty is also survived by his loving sisters Mary Catherine Killalea (Pat), Cel, Sr. Peggy, OP., and Martha Wilczyk (Jerry). His 15 grandchildren will miss him: Larry Calhoun, Joyce Marrin, Kathleen Calhoun (David), Gwen Marrin, Madeleine Marrin, Mason Marrin, Molly Marrin, Joshua Calhoun, Andrew Buckley, Mackenzie "Mack" Marrin, Matthew Marrin, Morgan Marrin, Clare Buckley, Maggie Marrin, and Marie Marrin. He was an uncle to 22, with a special connection to his nephew, Bill Killalea. Marty seemed to have cousins by the score. Marty was a virtuoso middle infielder leading his teams to many a championship, he could also wow you playing the piano or accordion. Hearing him sing with his mother and sisters was a joy. As a young man Marty laid railroad tracks, he later worked for Duffy Paper, Viking Press, and eventually ran his own business, Spillane's Printing. Marty loved to golf with his friends.
