Harriett O. Curry

Curry, Harriett O. Harriett (Hattie) Orlady Curry of Edina, Minnesota and Portland, Oregon, age 89, died peace-fully at her home in Portland on November 23. She lived near her loving daughter Char Curry for the past six years in Portland. Hattie will be fondly remembered as an active, strong-willed, high-energy woman who cherished her friends and family. She was intensely proud of her children and grandchildren, and of her late husband's company, Knutson Construction, which remains in the family today. Hattie and several close friends started one of the first used book stores in the country in 1975, Paperback Exchange at 50th and Penn in Minneapolis. She had a flair for cooking and entertaining and spent many wonderful years with her husband, John, at their second home in Rio Verde, Arizona surrounded by many dear friends from Minnesota and beyond. Born in Jamestown, North Dakota on August 26, 1926, Hattie attended the University of Minnesota where she met her husband, John A. Curry. In college she was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority and became a lifelong member of P.E.O. She was preceded in death by her husband John A. Curry, son Lewis Curry, and brother David Orlady. Hattie is survived by her son Steve Curry (Kathy), daughter Char Curry, grandchildren John Curry and Megan Curry, and brother Ben Orlady. A private family service will be held December 13 in the Garden at the Community Church of the Verdes in Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to The American Cancer Society (950 Blue Gentian Rd - Suite 100 Eagan, MN 55121) or charity of choice.
