Paul A. Swanson

Swanson, Paul A. Age 73 of Excelsior, passed into life with his Savior on August 27, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Phyllis; daughter, Beth (Neil) Pursley; sons, Eric (Charlotte), Kirk (Camille); grandsons, Stone, Mac, Sawyer; and granddaughter, Madelyn. Paul was a loving husband and father providing a benchmark role model for his family. He called his Phyllis his "one in a billion." A more devoted husband there never was. Paul's vocation as a mechanical engineer fit him well. He was a gifted designer, inventor and entrepreneur. As a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Paul went to work for Honeywell, and later for Control Data. In 1977 he founded MARTEC providing marketing and technical design solutions to major manufacturers throughout the Midwest. Both of his sons joined the firm and continue the family business today. His smile was infectious, and the twinkle in his eye, unforgettable. Paul treasured time at his beloved cabin on the lake in northern Minnesota, and, when he wasn't tinkering on an engine or something mechanical, enjoyed fishing with friends and his grandchildren. He was an active member of Faith Presbyterian Church, serving on many boards and committees throughout the years. He never missed the opportunity to go on the annual Faith Good Old Boys fishing trip every year. In total harmony with his mechanical mind, Paul had a passion for automobiles, most recently with his 1949 Jeepster, in which he and Phyllis made numerous tours of the Minnesota countryside with the local Jeepster club. His warmth and laughter, his love and caring, his wisdom and guidance, will be surely missed by all those who knew him. Visitation will be on Thursday Aug. 30st, 4-8 pm at Washburn-McReavy in Eden Prairie, 7625 Mitchell Road, Eden Prairie, 55344. (952) 975-0400. A Memorial Service will be held at 11am, Friday August 31, 2007 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 12007 Excelsior Blvd. Minnetonka, MN 55343. (952) 935-4481.
