Orfield, Lindy (Melba) August 11, 1919 to August 13, 2019. Wife of Myron Orfield Sr, she celebrated with him their 70th anniversary in 2007. Mother of six, grandmother of ten and great grandmother of many more. She departed in her 101st year of life, 96th year of parenting, 50th year of grand parenting and 19th year of great-grand parenting. And after reading tens of thousands of books Lindy Orfield. has closed the cover on her earthly story. Lindy lived a life of nonstop activity. She hauled her two children, then four of them, in a wagon to Hosmer Library in Minneapolis, where she brought home and read a stack of books every other week, letting us know about the thing she loved best. She was a great cook, graciously served meals to in-laws, grandkids almost anybody brought to the house. Like her dad Joe, she read at every spare minute, in a hammock surrounded by kids if possible. Later, when Bonnie and Myron Jr came along, they lived by Lake Nokomis and went to other libraries. Called "cyclone" as a child, she slowed down very slightly in later years. Lindy was extremely smart but also modest about her intelligence. She was fiercely dedicated to our well-being. There was never any doubt that she loved us. She had a very good sense of humor and loved to laugh and observe the human condition, especially on her porch on a summer day. Mom and Dad had a wonderful relationship. They worked very hard, but they also took care of and loved each other. They had a nice balance of work, family and enjoying themselves. She was a bundle of energy in everything she did be it loving, caring, learning or doing. She came to her own conclusions about life and really understood what was important in life. She was fun to be with. When Dad met her, he was instantly smitten, a feeling that lasted for 70 years. After dad's retirement, their activity accelerated, and they walked and went swimming every day. After Dad's death at age 93, she lived with our sister, Bonnie. They were great housemates and took care of each other up until the time of Bonnie's death earlier this year. Lindy stayed in her home until her passing, as did Bonnie, thanks to the wonderful caregivers that were with them day and night. We all celebrate a life well lived and look forward to our next gathering. Survived by children, Gary (Patricia), Mary (Don), Jon, Steve (Mary) and Myron Jr., also by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Private family services. A bench at Lake Nokomis will be dedicated to Lindy, My and Bonnie. Memorials to donor's choice or the American Cancer Society.
