Dr. Victor L. Marty

Marty, Dr. Victor L. Marty, Victor Luke, patriarch of one of the nation's largest family of chiropractors, lover of Jesus, family, and popcorn, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2018, just before his 92nd birthday. Victor is preceded in death by Lavonne, his beloved wife of 53 years. He is survived by his 8 children, Paul (Cindy), Susan (Jess) Eldridge, Elizabeth (Ed) Hoefner, Stephen (Carol), Michael (Jan), Jonathan (Liz), Joel, and Andrew; brother Dr. John (Joyce) Marty, 14 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. Victor's legendary work ethic was born serving ice cream in his family's south Minneapolis restaurant, the Nickel Nook, and honed as a Navy cook in WWII. He married the love of his life, Lavonne Holm, in 1951 and within 11 years, they had welcomed eight children into their home. Dr. Marty began his 41-year career as a doctor of chiropractic in 1950. He worked with passion in his large Hiawatha area practice, serving patients with kindness and compassion. He was admired by patients and respected by peers; a friend to everyone. As a pioneer in natural health care, Victor received numerous professional awards for his work in advancing the chiropractic profession. He was voted Chiropractor of the Year and had two gubernatorial appointments to the MN State Board of Chiropractic Examiners. He served on the Northwestern College of Chiropractic Board of Trustees for 22 years, received an honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from the college in 1988, and remained active as an alumni well into his 80's. His zeal for the profession inspired six of his children to become chiropractors, firmly establishing the Marty chiropractic legacy which includes 15 doctors.
