Maxine Johnson Leroux

Maxine was born in January 13, 1928 to Hans and Grace Johnson. She graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1946 and then attended Itasca Community College and Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis. While at Itasca Community College she met Gordon Leroux and they were married in 1949. While Gordon was completing his dentistry degree at the University of Minnesota, Maxine was employed at General Mills Research in the comptroller's office. In 1952, Maxine and Gordon moved back to Grand Rapids, where Gordon began his dental practice and they raised their family. Maxine loved being a homemaker, mother and community volunteer. Maxine also worked many years in the Itasca County Hospital Auxiliary and Red Cross Grey Ladies. She was involved in the AFS program and opened her home to a student from Austria. She was a Camp Fire group leader for many years, active in the Itasca Art Association, where she manned the art market in Central School. She also served on the Reif Board for several years. Maxine was a wonderful friend to many and a loyal member of several bridge clubs and birthday clubs. While her community and spiritual commitments were an important part of Maxine's life her family always came first. Preceding her in death were her husband, Gordon; her parents; brother, Dr. Russell Johnson; and sister, Doris (Bill) Hachey.
