Hass, Ruby A funeral service for Ruby Hass, 94, of Spirit Lake, Iowa was held Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Burial was at Silver Lake Cemetery in Lake Park. Ruby Carrie Hass, age 94, the daughter of Emil and Carrie Fry Hass, was born December 6, 1923 in Lake Park, Iowa. After graduating from Excelsior High School she attended the University of Iowa receiving her nursing degree. She later graduated with a Masters Degree in Nursing from the University of Minnesota. Ruby lived in Minneapolis until April 2017 when she moved to Iowa to be closer to family. Ruby worked as a surgical nurse, taught at St. Barnabas Hospital School of Nursing and then St. Mary's Junior College for 26 years where she was instrumental with the start of their associate degree nursing program. Ruby enjoyed traveling many places with her sister, Ruth. Some of their adventures lead them to Africa, China and Turkey. They enjoyed many vacations with their niece or great niece. Ruby enjoyed volunteering and helping with many Westminister Church activities. She also enjoyed puzzles, cards, bird watching and animals, especially cats. Ruby passed away on January 19, 2018 at Accura Healthcare in Spirit Lake. She is survived by her sisters, Ruth Hass and Pearl Godfrey of Spirit Lake; niece, Geralene Shuck and her husband Joe of Arnolds Park; and great niece, Carrie Shuck of Kansas City. Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake was in charge of arrangements.
