When Apple Valley High School assistant principal Michael Bolsoni takes over as principal this summer, he'll be the fourth principal in the school's 40-year history.

Bolsoni is replacing Steve Degenaar, who's retiring at the end of the school year. Degenaar has spent 31 years in the district and has been principal at Apple Valley High for the last 17 years, according to a release from the district.

Since Bolsoni became assistant principal in 2013, he has helped make Apple Valley High the last piece on the district's STEM school track, which includes some schools on the elementary and middle school levels, the release said. He has spearheaded implementation of the high school's E3 STEM program for the last two years, which is funded by a $3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor. The school was able to add a fabrication lab in the program.

Before that, Bolsoni was a teacher peer leader for the district's Quality Compensation Program from 2007 to 2011. He was also a teacher at the School of Environmental Studies.
