A 37-year-old man who was run down by a vehicle Saturday night in south Minneapolis died Monday afternoon, and his alleged assailant has been charged with murder.

Tristen E. Baier of Minneapolis is being held in the Hennepin County jail and will make his first court appearance Tuesday to face charges of second-degree intentional murder. He also is charged with first-degree assault, but it is likely that charge will be amended, police said.

Police spokesman Corey Schmidt said the incident happened shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday. The suspect argued with other people near Lake Street and Portland Avenue and caused some property damage. He left, then returned to the 2900 block of Portland, when he allegedly ran down the man who later died. The victim's name has not been released.

"This was totally intentional," Schmidt said, adding that it was a "complicated, domestic-related" incident, but that the victim was not related to the defendant.

The defendant stopped a "short distance away" and, with the help of witnesses, was arrested, Schmidt said.
