A Richfield pharmacist who overbilled Medicare and Medicaid by about $3.3 million was disciplined by the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy, according to the board's October newsletter. Roy D. Katz was convicted in February 2010 of two misdemeanors after improperly dividing 30- to 90-day prescriptions into seven-day units in order to generate multiple dispensing fees. This occurred over the course of nine years while Katz was a pharmacy owner in Connecticut, the board said. Since April 2010, Katz has been owner and pharmacist-in-charge at Custom RX Compounding Pharmacy in Richfield, the order stated. Katz was reprimanded, fined $2,500 and told to take a class on preventing fraud. He is banned from working with Medicare and Medicaid until reinstated by those programs. Terms of his criminal settlement require Katz and his Connecticut business to pay restitution in the amount of $1.25 million plus interest and other fees Read the full consent order here.
