DULUTH – Great news beer lovers - and lakeside patio connoisseurs - Canal Park Brewing has reopened after being closed since the last COVID-19 surge and state shutdown. It's looking mostly sunny, if a little cool, this weekend in the Twin Ports, so if you do manage to snag a seat on that coveted patio just remember: It's colder by the lake. (But you all know that.)

The new brews we're featuring this week all send proceeds to good local causes, so drink up.

Badass Warrior Goddess

Ursa Minor Brewing

Order it for the name, order another one because it's that good - and each crowler sale sends $2 to Safe Haven Shelter & Resource Center. It's a hazy IPA, by the way.

Details: Get it on tap and in crowlers to-go at the Lincoln Park brewery.

Skye's Spring Sipper

Blacklist Brewing

The Belgian-inspired brewery has a rotating selection of hard seltzers, and this one is a blackberry rhubarb that'll make you roar. Named after 11-year-old black bear Skye, proceeds from these seltzer sales benefit her new home, the Lake Superior Zoo.

Details: Order crowlers online or at the downtown Duluth brewery.

Chicken Scratch IPA

Bent Paddle Brewing

Brewed to benefit Homegrown Music Festival - $5 from every growler and crowler sale goes to benefit the nonprofit that runs the annual fest - this double citra IPA with an 8% ABV meets the definition of "gnarly" or perhaps simply "gnar." Pairs well with streaming or revisiting this year's virtual festival content.

Details: Get it at the Lincoln Park taproom.

These offerings from previous weeks may also still be available.

Royal Bohemian Pilsner

Earth Rider Brewery

This week's new offering as part of First Pour Friday at the Superior brewery is a crisp German lager with just enough hops to keep you sipping and not chugging.

Details: Get it on tap at Earth Rider's taproom, the Cedar Lounge.

Blackberry Mosaic Cider

Wild State Cider

Blackberries, hops and apples combine for an unfiltered, tart treat coming in at 6.4% ABV. Delectable.

Details: Now on tap and available to go at the Lincoln Park cidery.

Be Hefe'n Nice

Ursa Minor Brewing

It's hefeweizen season, and you could probably make a North Shore brewery tour out of just hefs right now. (See also: Hoops, Castle Danger, Blacklist, Bent Paddle.) This malty brew is "especially slammable" and pairs well with a chair on the Ursa Minor patio looking over West Superior Street and the throngs of folks sure to be joining you this weekend.

Details: Get it on tap and in crowlers to-go at the brewery.

Sultana of Swing IPA

Bent Paddle Brewing

The latest Rotator IPA release from Bent Paddle's pilot brewery takes sultana hops — and "cryo" sultana hops, yes, cryogenically processed hops — for an IPA-flavored IPA.

Details: Available at the taproom.

The Last Farmhouse on the Left Saison

Castle Danger

This new release from the Two Harbors brewery is a hazy, dry-hopped Belgian brew with "notes of white grapefruit, light peach, and citrus peel" that strikes a bitter/sweet balance. The name is a play on the "Last House on the Left" Wes Craven horror classic, BTW.

Details: Get it on tap at the brewery.

Apricot Berry Smoothie Cider

Duluth Cider

With more than a quarter-pound of fruit per crowler, this cider truly is part smoothie - or maybe this smoothie is part cider. The stone fruit leads with strawberries and blueberries providing a "killer tannin backbone."

Details: Get it on tap at the Lincoln Park cidery and in crowlers and growlers to go.

Kettle Sour Gose

Blacklist Brewing Co.

The downtown Duluth brewery known for its Belgian-inspired ales is taking a trip east for this German-style sour that has a light, tart touch. Duluth reporter Brooks Johnson was today years old when he learned gose rhymes with "nose-uh."

Details: Get it on tap at the brewery.

Sour Cherry Ale

Hoops Brewing

This wheat ale has been imbued with "copious amounts" of sour cherries and some black currants, giving a fruity finish one would expect from a beverage this shade of red/pink.

Details: Get it on tap and in crowlers to-go at the brewery.
