ARLINGTON, Texas — Shaun Anderson pitched in four games for the Twins this season, and this weekend he might pitch against them.
The 26-year-old righthander, acquired from the Giants during the offseason for LaMonte Wade Jr., was claimed by the Rangers off waivers today.
Anderson had been on the injured list because of finger blisters, but was activated this week and sent to St. Paul, which meant he had to clear waivers. And Texas, the last place team in the AL West, took a shot at him.
Wade is hitting .257 in 23 games for San Francisco, which leads the NL West and has the best record in the league.
The Twins and Rangers start a three-game series tonight (7:05, BSN) at Globe Life Field with Jose Berrios (7-2, 3.49 ERA) against Mike Foltynewicz (1-7, 5.48).
Max Kepler has been activated from the injured list after rehabbing his hamstring injury and will start in right field. Gilberto Celestino has been optioned to make room for Kepler, but Celestino will stay with the team here on the taxi squad.
Josh Donaldson (calf) and Andrelton Simmons (ankle) won't start. Donaldson is also sick, manager Rocco Baldelli said. Simmons could come off the bench tonight.
