A storm set to invade the East will not be remembered for providing a whiteChristmas. Instead, ice will glaze areas from the North Carolina mountains toNew England this morning into Saturday. The treacherous travel that resultswill threaten those headed to family, friends or any other holidayactivity. The above graphic displays the anticipated arrival time of the ice. It shouldbe noted that it is not out of the question that freezing drizzle could startbefore daybreak as far north as southern Pennsylvania.

For places shaded in pink, the ice will only last for a short period of timebefore changing to rain. Despite the ice's brevity, remember that even a thinglaze of ice will make roads and sidewalks slippery.

Stubborn cold air will delay the change to rain for the areas highlighted inred. In addition to an extended stretch of slippery roads and sidewalks, enoughice could accumulate to down tree limbs and power lines. Not only may you notbe able to reach your holiday destination, but you may have to spend a part ofChristmas Day or Saturday without power.
