"Short Bike Rides Minnesota" by Mark Weinberger provides an excellent guide for the Poetry Barns tour, as well as a host of other great family rides. Twin Bluff Middle School in Red Wing (2120 Twin Bluff Road) is a good starting point for your ride, with street parking in the area. From the school take a right to head west along Pioneer Road. After a little less than 1 1/2 miles, take a left to head south onto County Road 1 to begin the circular route. After about 6 miles, you will reach County Road 6 and take a right (heading north) and ride for about 4 1/2 miles. At Hwy. 19, take another right (heading east) for another 2 1/2 or so miles until you reach Hwy. 61, then turn right to head back into Red Wing.
To return to the school, do not follow the bike trail paralleling Hwy. 61 all the way into downtown Red Wing but turn right from Hwy. 61 onto Tyler Road until you reach Bench Street/County Road 1. Turn right onto County Road 1 (heading south). Just over a mile later, turn left on Pioneer Road to get back to the school.
