On a double lot beneath a 200-year-old oak tree, not far from the river bluffs of St. Paul's West End, a family has hosted backyard concerts for the the past three summers. No, this isn't a bunch of kids torturing guitar strings, or your uncle tooting his own horn. These are professional, popular entertainers -- such as The Pines, Communist Daughter, Mina Moore, Jazzland Wonderband and the Roe Family Singers -- playing laid-back shows that are growing in popularity, fame and audience size. At the heart of it, though, is a family that wanted an alternative to the traditional summertime party and a neighborhood that uses these concerts to grow ever closer. We photographed at "The Pines" concert in the backyard of Sean Kershaw and husband Tim Hawkins, of Saint Paul, on Saturday, August 21, 2016.
