Fifty years ago this month, residents of Milwaukee Avenue in Minneapolis learned that the city wanted to demolish their homes and rebuild the neighborhood. Residents fought back, and today the four-block enclave, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, is one of the state's great historic preservation success stories.
