A team from St. Michael-Albertville and a rising senior from New Prague High School won national titles Sunday at the USA High School Clay Target League's inaugural national championships in Mason, Mich.
Woodrow Glazer of New Prague was one of three competitors to shoot a perfect 200x200 over the course of the individual championship, which attracted nearly 1,400 registered competitors. Glazer won the title in a shoot-off against Mason Milbrand of Norwood Young America High School and Ethan Boettcher of St. Croix Central High School in Hammond, Wis.
Glazer won the Minnesota high school championship outright as a sophomore in 2017 and finished in a five-way tie for first in the state meet last month at the Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake.
St. Michael-Albertville won the national team championship. The five-person team of Lane Berning, Jake Borgen, Kyle Dupont, Garrett Mourning and Will Rahne hit a total of 968 targets out of 1,000 to defeat 175 other teams. The Knights won the Minnesota high school championship last month and in 2017.
Other Minnesota programs finishing in the top five included Delano in second, New Prague in third and St. Peter in fifth place.
