SOUTH METRO AREALocal students win top speech honors
Several south-metro students won national titles at recent speech and debate tournaments.
Lindsey White , a senior at Eastview High School in Apple Valley, won her second consecutive title in humorous interpretation at the National Forensic League tournament held last month in Kansas City, Mo. Karen Zhou, a senior at Lakeville North High School, won first place for expository speaking.
Eastview senior Taylor Misiak took home top honors in original oratory at the National Catholic Forensic League tournament held this spring in Omaha. Dylan Slinger , a junior at Lakeville South High School, was the top competitor in extemporaneous speaking at that event.
At the Kansas City competition, Eagan High School was the only school in the nation to earn School of Excellence awards in both speech and debate. Lakeville North was one of 11 schools to win a School of Excellence award in speech.
