A 29-year-old Cottage Grove woman has been charged with two counts of second-degree manslaughter in connection with the smothering of her baby boy as they slept last November.
Toni Medrano was charged Thursday in Washington County District Court in a case that revolves around her alleged negligence and other actions in the death of her three-week-old son, Adrian Medrano.
Police and firefighters had been called to the family's apartment in the 8800 block of 90th Street about a child not breathing about 11 a.m. on Nov. 22.
Officers tried to revive Adrian, but he was pronounced dead at Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury.
The Ramsey County Medical Office investigated and determined Adrian died of asphyxia after being laid upon while sleeping.
