Bloomington police are investigating the death of a 26-year-old woman who was found unconscious on a city street just before midnight Thursday.

Officers were called to the 7900 block of S. 2nd Avenue and found the woman, Genevieve Marie Skouge, 26, unconscious with injuries consistent with an assault, said Deputy Chief Mike Hartley.

Skouge was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, where she died, Hartley said.

The woman apparently was beaten with a baseball bat, according to a report from the scene by medical responders to emergency dispatch. But police Friday morning did not confirm that.

"We are actively pursuing leads in this homicide investigation. We have developed 'persons of interest' who were known to the victim. At this time we do not believe there is a risk to the general public," Hartley said in a statement Friday afternoon.

Anybody with information is asked to call police at 952-563-4900.
