Heavy rains starting at about 5:30 this evening have led to the Twins-Rays game being delayed. The rain led to standing water in the outfield and on the warning track around the field.

The rain has subsided, and the game will start at 7:50.

The rain returned, leading to a longer delay. Now first pitch is set for 9:05.

Now the Twins adjusted that to 9:10.

Logan Morrison's All-Star break will start four days early.

The Twins' first baseman and designated hitter, bothered in recent weeks by soreness in his left hip, has been placed on the 10-day disabled list. His roster spot will be taken by Ehire Adrianza, who has recovered from a hamstring injury that sidelined him 10 days ago.

Morrison, batting .193 with 11 home runs in his first season with the Twins, has been diagnosed with a left hip impingement, though the injury is not believed to be serious. With MLB teams taking four days off next week for the All-Star break, it's possible Morrison could miss only six games while recovering.

Adriana has batted .261 in 64 games this season, mostly filling in at shortstop during Jorge Polanco's steroids suspension. With Polanco back, Adrianza could return to his utility role that he filled in 70 games last year.

Updates

Morrison said his hip is a chronic issue that he's managed for some time, but it's bothering him more these days and affecting his back. So the decision was made to shut him down for 10 days. The doctors feel the timing is right, with the All-Star break approaching.

I think it's odd, given that he hit a homer yesterday and has, lately, hit other balls hard that have been right at opponents.

Twins manager Paul Molitor brought up the possibility of having a bullpen game on Sunday, in which he uses relievers. But if Aaron Slegers isn't used over the next few games, he would seem to be the best option.

Ervin Santana will definitely make his next start at Class AA Rochester. But I'm getting the feeling that the rotation following the All-Star break will be: Jose Berrios, Kyle Gibson, Jake Odorizzi, Ervin Santana and Lance Lynn.

The Rays sent down Willy Adames and called up righthander Chih-Wei Hu. Yes, the same Hu who was traded by the Twins to the Rays for Kevin Jepsen in 2015.
