Dynamic guitar duo
A recent spate of superb guitar gigs continues with the duo of Fareed Haque and Goran Ivanovic. Thanks to culture and curiosity, these acoustic pickers purvey a versatile swatch of styles. Haque's roots are in Pakistan and Chile; Ivanovic was raised in Croatia. Both were mentored in jazz, classical and "world music" environments. It's been years since they released two albums together, but now they're back to sharing their nimble technical prowess and flair for improvisation. Real Feels returns
On previous visits, the dynamic range of John Raymond's Real Feels Trio fit perfectly with the bright acoustics of Vieux Carre. A Minneapolis native who established himself as a trumpeter-composer in New York and now teaches in Indiana, Raymond twines Americana and intrepid jazz with his cohorts Gilad Hekselman on guitar and Colin Stranahan on drums. Four jazz stalwarts
Four stalwarts of the local jazz scene make up Bottomless Pit, beginning with redoubtable drummer and former Weather Report and McCoy Tyner band member Eric Kamau Grávátt. Add in saxophonist Pete Whitman, guitarist Joel Shapira and bassist Tom Lewis, and you've got a crew that's been vital to dozens if not hundreds of local ensembles over the decades. More luminous guitar
Here's yet another marvelous guitar date, this one featuring Matthew Stevens, who has played with Esperanza Spalding and Christian Scott, among others. After an acoustic-oriented debut titled "Woodwork" in 2015, Stevens pared down his band to the riveting trio of Vicente Archer on bass and Eric Doob on drums. Then he dove into luminous electric guitar for his second album, "Preverbal" (reminiscent of his early work with Scott). (7 p.m. Tue., Vieux Carre, St. Paul; $15-$18, vieux-carre.com)
