Even Prince wouldn't have complained about this one.
Target Center had to reschedule next weekend's "Prince: Live on the Big Screen" event from Saturday, April 21 — the second anniversary of his death — to one night earlier to accommodate a Minnesota Timberwolves playoff game that night.
Tickets to the original date will still be honored at the Minneapolis arena for the replacement show on Friday, April 20, which is still set to start at 8 p.m. About the only thing that will be different is the band will have one less day to rehearse.
Plenty of tickets remain for the "live" performance, a Paisley Park production, which will feature alumni from Prince's various backing groups of recent decades playing along to unreleased concert footage of the star. Seats can be bought for $39-$199 at the arena box office, TargetCenter.com, or by calling 1-888-9-AXS-TIX.
Two-for-one discounts were also offered via Travelzoo in recent weeks, a sign that questions may still linger over whether Prince would have approved of the event and how the show is being put together. Paisley Park representatives declined requests from the Star Tribune to interview the participants.
"Live on the Big Screen" was put together as part of Paisley Park's second annual Celebration, a four-day marathon of all-things-Prince happening at his Chanhassen studio-turned-museum next Thursday through Sunday, April 19-22.
The rest of the schedule for Celebration is not made public ahead of time, but presumably one of the headlining performers — who include Sheila E., fDeluxe (aka the Family) and Shelby J — will now perform at the museum Saturday night instead of Friday.
After Wednesday night's thrilling overtime win at home against the Denver Nuggets, the Wolves landed a playoff spot against the Houston Rockets. They will play their first home game and their third of the Rockets series on April 21 at 6:30 p.m.
Surely they are bound to win that one in Prince's honor, right?
