Duluth area: Area inland waters have provided consistent fishing action. Anglers are finding northern pike near the shorelines, hitting crank baits and spinner baits. Walleye are being found in the midlake areas. Fishing has been inconsistent on the St. Louis River because of recent changing weather patterns.
Grand Rapids area: Anglers are having walleye, bass and panfish success on many area lakes. Largemouth and smallmouth bass have been biting as they begin to spawn. The Mississippi River is producing lots of nice walleye, but few anglers have been taking advantage of the bite. Fishing has been good on Moose, Trout, Wabana and Splithand lakes.
Lake Mille Lacs: Huge schools of smallmouth bass were gathered in the shallows along the lake's rocky shorelines 10 days ago. By midweek last week, anglers were reporting a tremendous bass bite — with many in the 5- to 6-pound range — and the excellent bass action has continued. Anglers were having success using plastics, jerk baits or live bait.
Park Rapids area: Walleye are biting at the new weed lines in areas with a sandy bottom. Bass have remained on their beds but are responding to black 4-inch worms. Northern pike are taking to fast-moving bait pulled through depths of 5 to 8 feet of water near the weeds. Anglers are finding big bluegills and crappies in 4 to 7 feet.
Red Wing area: Conditions on the Mississippi River have improved as the water levels have stabilized. In the steady water levels, anglers have been locating fish and then remaining in the area as long as the water level remains consistent. Anglers have been having success using light jigs with crawlers or leeches.
Willmar area: Bass and northern pike have been very active on most area lakes. Anglers are finding Sunfish and crappies on Eagle, Diamond, Willmar and Foot lakes. The most active walleye have been found on Solomon, South Long, Willmar, Foot and Ringo lakes. Anglers have been using jigs and live bait rigs tipped with leeches and crawlers to keep walleye interested.
