A man who was fatally shot at a scene in St. Paul where another person was wounded was identified as a 19-year-old man.

Taishawn T. Smith, of St. Paul, died Sunday night after being shot while sitting in a vehicle near the intersection of Payne Avenue and Jessamine Avenue E. in the Payne-Phalen neighborhood, police said.

One person was arrested that evening for allegedly aiding an offender to avoid arrest. No charges had been filed against that suspect or anyone else as of Wednesday afternoon.

Paramedics took both victims to Regions Hospital, where Smith died and the other was being treated for his injuries, police said.

Police have yet to suggest a motive for the gunfire. In late March, Smith was on the scene of gang-related fatal gunfire that killed 19-year-old Billy Ray Robles outside a party bus in an Inver Grove Heights parking lot.

Smith was charged with second-degree riot in connection with the mayhem on March 24 outside the AMC Inver Grove 16 theaters.

A witness said Smith was fighting with "everybody that was not his friends," the criminal complaint read. Smith told police that he was acting as a "peacemaker."

Smith pleaded guilty to felony second-degree riot and was sentenced to the time her served in jail after his arrest and put on five years' probation.
