See more of the story

Our local paramedics, emergency medical technicians and first responders provide care to the victims of emergencies, accidents and disasters every day of the year. Their skills and courage are unparalleled, and their quick action can mean the difference between life and death for members of our community. We all admire these local heroes when there's an event that makes headlines. Beyond the news stories, they perform daily acts of heroism for which they rarely receive recognition. That's why, on Tuesday, Regions Hospital Emergency Medical Services (EMS) will hold its annual Rig Wash to honor emergency personnel. The physicians and nurses of Regions will express their gratitude by washing the emergency vehicles. I see hundreds of patients every year who are alive today thanks to the skill, judgment and quick action of EMS professionals. Please join us and take the opportunity of National EMS Week to say thank you to these heroes. R.J. FRASCONE, MEDICAL DIRECTOR, REGIONS HOSPITAL EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES
