The Traveler: Diane Karkhoff Sisko of Woodbury
Sisko and her husband headed to Badlands National Park in South Dakota for a camping trip. They went on a drive near sunset so Sisko could photograph the landscape and wildlife during what photographers call the golden hour, the soft light of dusk. They spied bighorn sheep and pronghorn amid the beautiful landscape. "As we were headed back to our campsite just outside of the park, the sun was setting and was especially large and red due to the wildfires out West," Sisko wrote in an e-mail. "The scene looked great so I asked my husband to stop the car right then." She made this photograph with her Panasonic mirrorless camera and a Tamron 14-150mm lens. The very stark landscape of the Badlands "can be quite beautiful, especially in the morning and evening," she wrote.
