The Guthrie Theater has filled in the final blank in its 2021-22 season.

"Destiny of Desire," a comedy by Karen Zacarias, will run April 30-June 5 at the theater, which had a hit with the playwright's "Native Gardens" in 2017. Originally planned for the COVID-19 pandemic-shortened 2019-20 season, "Destiny of Desire" takes inspiration from telenovelas. Like many of those Latin American soap operas, "Destiny" hinges on the fates of two families whose babies, one born into poverty and the other into wealth, are switched at birth. "Destiny" will be directed by Ruben Santiago-Hudson, a Broadway veteran as both an actor and director.

Guthrie audiences could be seeing more of Zacarias, who also was co-commissioned by the theater and Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park to adapt the western classic "Shane" for the stage.

Tickets for the season, which begins with "What the Constitution Means to Me" in September, go on sale Aug. 10. For information, visit guthrietheater.org.
