Eden Prairie scored four first-period goals en route to a 6-4 win over Elk River in the Holiday Classic in boys' high school hockey at Edina's Braemar Arena.
The Class 2A, No. 7 Eagles scored 72 seconds into the game, as Drew Holt netted a rebound from a John Mittelstadt shot attempt. It took the Elks just 66 seconds to respond, and then another minute for a second goal. Jack Ferry scored on a power play, then Zachary Michaelis scored the go-ahead goal 56 seconds later.
The Eagles added three goals in the final five minutes of the period: Jacob Lillejord, Sam Wilhite and Mittelstadt all tallied goals to put the Eagles ahead 4-2 going into the first intermission.
Keegan Langefels scored the second period's lone goal on a wrist shot from near the blue line, extending the Eagles' lead to 5-2.
Zach Stroh scored a power-play goal with 6:35 left in the game, giving the Elks life for a possible comeback. The Eagles shut that down quickly, as Jack Jensen scored 45 seconds later to restore Eden Prairie's three-goal lead.
Michaelis tacked on a late Elks goal — his second — but the Eagles were able to hold on for the 6-4 win.
Totino-Grace 4, Armstrong/Cooper 2: Luke Delzer scored three goals to lead the Eagles past the host Wings. Ben Palmer broke a 2-2 tie with 6:14 left in the third period for the game-winning goal. Jonah Jangula scored late in the second period and Ben Anderson early in the third to erase a two-goal deficit for the Wings. Jon Howe stopped 34 shots for the Eagles.
Blaine 5, Centennial 4 (OT): Carsen Richels scored his second goal of the game 23 seconds into overtime to give the Bengals the victory over the visiting Cougars. They had three one-goal leads in the game before needing a goal from Henry Bartle, his second of the game, with 5:01 left in the third period. Joshua Hermes and Joshua O'Hara also scored for the Cougars. Cole Hansen, Bryce Brodzinski and Zach Buzick also scored for the Bengals. Joe Daninger stopped 26 shots for the Bengals and Leo Troje made 37 saves for the Cougars.
Hill-Murray 8, South St. Paul 0: Charlie Strobel scored four goals and had an assist to lead the Class 2A, No. 10 Pioneers past the visiting Packers. The Pioneers broke the game open with four goals in the second period. Triston Tabucol scored two goals, Nick Pierre had three assists, Lucas Wahlin had a goal and an assist and Joe Palodichuk scored a goal for the Pioneers. Brady Gallahue stopped 25 shots for the Packers and Remington Keopple made seven saves for the Pioneers.
Girls' hockey
Minnesota River 7, Waseca 6: The Bulldogs scored six goals in the last 13 minutes of the game to comeback and beat the host Bluejays. Keely Olness and Emma Seaver scored two goals each during the rally. Whitney Weick scored the game-winning goal shorthanded with 54 seconds left in the game. Weick also had three assists and Olness had one. Ella Boomgaarden and Kylie Dunning also scored for the Bulldogs. Jayde Pederson scored four goals and had an assist for the Bluejays. Isabella Sorenson and Jacklynn Jevning scored a goal each for the Bluejays. Erin Volkmer stopped 33 shots for the Bluejays and Madison Kisor had 24 saves for the Bulldogs.
Farmington 4, Shakopee 3 (OT): Samantha Moehle scored 13 seconds into overtime to give the Tigers the victory over the host Sabers. Claire Enright got the scoring started for the Tigers just past the midway point of the second period. Holly Eckers and Olivia Grabianowski scored 1:50 apart to give the Sabers a 2-1 lead after two periods. Brenna Fuhrman and Carly Lancaster scored in the third period for the Tigers and Madeline Canny scored for the Sabers. Ryleigh Furlong made 18 saves for the Tigers and Brianna Eastman stopped 24 shots for the Sabers.
Boys' basketball
Osseo 66, Lakeville South 60: The Orioles rallied from an 11-point deficit at halftime to defeat the visiting Cougars. Cornell Richardson scored 28 points to lead the Orioles and Terrance Waits had 13. Reid Patterson scored 27 points to lead the Cougars, Joe Bachinski had 13 and Abe Strader had 12.
Chaska 67, Lakeville North 62: The host Hawks built an eight-point halftime lead before holding off the Class 4A, No. 5 Panthers in the second half. Cole Nicholson led the Hawks with 26 points, Zach Lea had 13 and Luke Strazzanti had 10. Tyler Wahl led the Panthers with 24 points and Jack Rusch had 17.
Champlin Park 68, Wayzata 62: The host Rebels overcame a one-point halftime deficit to defeat the Class 4A, No. 7 Trojans. Bennett Otto scored 24 points to lead the Rebels. Camden Heide scored 18 points to lead the Trojans, Luke Paulson had 15 and Kody Williams had 11. Jacob Johnson had 12 points, Jared Walter had 11 and Kato Seley had 10 for the Rebels.
Girls' basketball
Minneapolis Edison 64, St. Paul Academy 55: Sierra Morrow had 43 points, 25 rebounds, three steals and four blocks to lead the Tommies past the visiting Spartans. Kennedy Hernodon led the Spartans with 20 points and Rashmi Raveendran and Pilar Saaverda-Weis had 14 each. Avery Page had 17 rebounds for the Tommies.
